Solidot | Apple is designing IOS devices that do not use the high-pass modulator chip

Apple and Qualcomm are playing an increasingly fierce lawsuit, the Wall Street Journal quotes people familiar with the news reports Apple wants to completely discard Qualcomm’s components from its devices. People familiar with the matter said Apple was considering using Intel’s modem chip or MediaTek’s chip because Qualcomm refused to provide key software to test the IPhone and the IPad prototype chip. After Apple sued, Qualcomm stopped sharing the software. Previous generations of iphones used only the modulator chip from Qualcomm, but Apple purchased the chips from Intel at the same time from last year’s iphone 7 and 7 Plus. The IPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which began selling in September this year, still includes Qualcomm and Intel two chip versions.
